Inspired by my avatar work, Lee pitched the idea of making an avatar for each company featured.&#38;nbsp; 
My first designs were definitly too childish for the article (would make a great kids show though).&#38;nbsp;

So I aged up some of the character designs that were working and got to building the 3D assets needed for the spots and cover image. I was also testing out a VHS filter on my 3D renders to give it some extra flavour.&#38;nbsp;

Hybrid 2D/3D project for Sous Bas Clubhouse! Sous Bas was my favourite place to go dancing in Hamilton. They needed a poster to let everyone know they were opening their space up for different groups and activities as part of a membership. 	Based on the theme “Camping”, I was tasked with designing some characters for Mugobunni.&#38;nbsp;
A raccoon, frog and musquito came to mind instantly. The first two were approved by Mugo right away but the musquito took some convincing.&#38;nbsp;
My initial sketches had the right vibe and when moving to colour Mugo provided lots of feedback to make them print ready. It was a super fun project and I hope to work with Mugobunni again. Check out their stationery!&#38;nbsp;

	My Intro to Blender workshop series was designed for The Art Gallery of Burlington’s youth program,&#38;nbsp;Reimagining Digital Bodies, and then ran again through the Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) in Ottawa.&#38;nbsp;
This workshop covers the overall process of taking a character from initial design to fully functional 3D asset.&#38;nbsp;
The accompanying PDF is chalk full of useful hotkeys, tips and 3D workflow musts. So much of Blender (or any digital arts software) is constantly changing, the most important thing to learn is how each peice fits together and larger concepts that are consistent across software.

The first two-hour session in this broader series created for the AGB directly involved youth in the process of virtual self-representation. I was able to share my thesis work with participants and discuss how avatar design is situated in larger social structures.

The group then created a design using various assets I provided which I later built in 3D and brought into VRChat as an avatar. This avatar was on display at the gallery! Our collective fish-person alive and thriving for all to enjoy 🐟

Making it about you was a quick two session introduction to creating autobiographical comics. We chatted about the power of self-representation, comic-making basics and the types of stories to tell about ourselves. 


Garden of FeelingsFEELING IT, WAHC2020
	An 

hour-long art activity for&#38;nbsp;WAHC’s March 2020 programming for 2020, planned in celebration of International Womens’
Day. It was a family-friendly event exploring the themes of emotions, emotional labour, and healthy communication of feelings, held in collaboration with the Hamilton and District Labour Council (HDLC). The visiting families and guests and made feeling gardens with craft supplies that helped to explore, articulate, and visualize different feelings and connect to the concepts of care and emotional labour.

I graduated from Sheridan College with a BA in illustration and received a post-graduate certificate in computer animation. My work often explores gender identity, fandom as a tool for collaborative world-building and immersive storytelling. I’ve worked as a freelance illustrator, motion designer and in the animation industry as well as facilitating workshops at WAHC, Radstorm, DARC and the Art Gallery of Burlington.

	My artistic practice involves whatever medium I feel suits the project; often learning new software and pipelines to mix and match them for the most compelling result. I mostly work in Blender, Davinci Resolve and Unity, because they are open-source and free. However, by working in the animation industry I have become proficient in:

After dabbling in all of these tools and software my true skill is quickly learning hotkeys and keywords to google.


With a love for emerging technology and the blend of traditional and new media I’ve entered the world of virtual reality (VR) as both an artist and researcher. In 2021 I completed a Master's in 3D Animation at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, researching the impact of avatar design on behaviour in social VR.
Since then I have spent (sooooo many) hours exploring virtual worlds and experimenting with digital bodies. I began to identify with one of the avatars I created and retroactively created a backstory for her and her world with the comic ORIGINS. This cycle between creating art, embodying it, sharing it and then creating more art with those experiences is fundamental to my approach as a VR artist. I hope to explore the potential of social VR in stimulating the collective imagination toward sensitive and collaborative digital futures.

This film explores my research theorizing the advantages of using stylized avatars in Social VR, how design can impact user behaviour and the current application of anime and hyper-sexualized avatars in VRchat. The base mesh was modeled and textured in Blender&#38;nbsp; (with the help of Clip Studio Paint) &#38;amp; then rigged using Mixamo.

After the mesh looked good, had all the necessary visemes and shape keys and was rigged I used CATS blender plugin to optimize and export as an FBX for Unity.

VRchat has a lot of documentation on how to download their SDK and the process for uploading avatars using Unity. Once you’ve gone through the process like five/six... maybe 10 times? It starts to make a lot of sense!
